It’s amazing how drastically Glenn Beck’s personal brand of paranoia and magical ability to make ignorant people feel like experts on politics has changed my dad. I remember how moderate he used to be, back when he and I started talking about politics.
“Does anything ever really happen,” I’d ask him, wondering how much was actually accomplished in the realm of politics. He paused, said no, and started listening to various news networks on the radio, but would still watch Fox News at home. He was a moderate for a few years.
This changed when Beck hit. My dad became much more politically paranoid, and, in recent months, horribly prejudiced against Muslims and Muslim-looking people (read: everyone who’s Indo-Arabic).
He’s calmed down ever since my girlfriend and I started getting Socratic on his Facebook statuses, but he has recently maintained that the Left, in its entirety, is hateful.
It’s sad, really.
